The project

Youth leaders in training

Context

The project is based upon the results from a previous project entitled Yo-Pro, youth work in progress, where training material for youth workers were developed. The purpose with the current project – entitled Yo-Train - youth workers in training - is to design a consistent training programme/concept linked to a method of recognising the non-formal learning occurring. The results will be used by training providers in further training of youth workers and by employers to quality ensure the competences in their staff and as a way of broaden the base for recruitment. The beneficiaries of the project are professional youth workers both in the sense that further training and skill enhancement programmes will be developed and improved and in the sense that the youth worker profession will be better defined in relation to the demands in the society.

  • The youth work profession is in change and requires new competencies. There is an identified need for proper vocational training and skill enhancement programmes to meet these demands and challenges. This new role implies, eg:
  • from activating to empowering,
  • “participation pedagogues”
  • capacity to create an environment in order to promote and foster entrepreneurship
  • The youth worker profession needs to be better clarified and defined
  • The role of and demands from the employers need to be taken into consideration
  • The new demands requires new/improved training programs of youth workers, both initial and further training
  • Methods for accreditation of competencies and of learning. There is a need to adapt systems and methods for accreditation of the learning since most of the training of youth workers is non-formal.

Project objectives

  1. To develop a consistent training programme for the training of youth workers, based on the demands of the employers and the demands from a society in change…
  2. consistent curricula, learning objectives, pedagogy, didactics etc
  3. clarification of the roles of the training providers
  4. To implement a method for accreditation of non-formal learning and competencies with clear links to the EQF and ECVET

Target group

The project results can be used by education providers in the field of youth work and pedagogy, as well as to all authorities and other organisations responsible for local and regional youth work and which thereby have employees in these areas.
